Apple’s upcoming touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro may be significantly lighter than current models without being significantly thinner, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The clarification scales back earlier expectations about the laptop’s design ahead of its expected launch later this month.
Gurman said on X that he does not expect the new MacBook Pro to be “significantly thinner” in the end. His latest comment follows earlier reports describing the upcoming models as having thinner and lighter frames, and later as featuring a thinner chassis.
What changed in the OLED MacBook Pro reports
In October 2025, Gurman reported that Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro models would use thinner and lighter frames. A November 2025 report referred to a thinner chassis for the touchscreen versions.
However, a Bloomberg newsletter published in October 2026 described the laptops as significantly lighter rather than repeating the earlier claim about a thinner design. Gurman’s latest response makes the distinction more explicit: Apple may reduce the computer’s weight without making a major change to its overall thickness.
Touchscreen OLED models are still expected
The design clarification does not change the broader expectation that Apple is preparing MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and touchscreen support. Those features would represent a notable change for the MacBook Pro line, which has traditionally relied on a non-touch display and physical keyboard and trackpad controls.
Gurman’s reporting has linked the new models to a launch later this month, although the source material does not provide a specific release date. Apple has not been identified as confirming the timing or the final physical design.
Why weight and thickness matter separately
A thinner laptop is not necessarily a lighter laptop. Apple could reduce weight through changes to internal components or construction while keeping the chassis close to its current dimensions. That approach could preserve space for other components while still making the computer easier to carry.
For potential buyers, the latest wording suggests that portability may be the more meaningful design improvement to watch. Anyone expecting a dramatically slimmer MacBook Pro should keep expectations in check until Apple provides official specifications.
