Apple’s next entry-level iPad models are not expected to arrive until early 2027, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The tablets, identified internally by the codenames J581 and J582, would follow a later release schedule than some of Apple’s other planned iPad updates.
The timing means shoppers considering Apple’s least expensive iPad may have to wait beyond the current year for a new generation. Gurman’s report does not provide a specific launch date, pricing information, or details about the changes planned for the J581 and J582 models.
Entry-level iPad models reportedly target 2027
The J581 and J582 models are described as Apple’s next entry-level iPads. Bloomberg’s report places their arrival in early 2027, but it does not identify the reason for the delayed timing or explain how the models will differ from the current entry-level iPad.
For buyers, the reported schedule separates the standard iPad from Apple’s other iPad plans. The company is also expected to introduce a new iPad mini at the end of October this year, according to the report. That would give the smaller tablet a much earlier position in the product cycle than the next entry-level iPad.
iPad Air could receive an OLED display
Apple is reportedly planning a major iPad Air refresh in 2027. The most notable change would be the addition of an OLED display, which would distinguish the updated Air from the current models and bring the technology to another part of Apple’s tablet lineup.
The report does not specify the screen sizes, panel specifications, price, or release timing for the OLED iPad Air. It also does not say whether the display change would apply to every planned iPad Air model.
New iPad Pro may improve thermal performance
A new iPad Pro is also planned for 2027, according to Gurman. The tablet could include a vapor chamber designed to improve thermal performance and help sustain performance under demanding workloads.
A vapor chamber would be a hardware change focused on heat management rather than a feature visible in everyday use. However, the report does not confirm that Apple will include the component, and it provides no further details about the next iPad Pro’s processor, design, display, or launch date.
Apple’s reported iPad roadmap therefore includes products arriving across different periods: a new iPad mini later this year, followed by an OLED iPad Air, a potential vapor-chamber-equipped iPad Pro, and new entry-level iPad models in early 2027. Until Apple announces the devices, the reported specifications and timing should be treated as unconfirmed.
