Apple’s reported HomeView smart home hub is expected to ship around mid-November, about a month after the company is set to unveil it at an October 13 event. The timing comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says the device will follow Apple’s next Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini models.
According to Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, those updated products are expected to arrive in stores and with customers on October 30. The HomeView would therefore become the later addition to Apple’s expanding smart home lineup, assuming the current release schedule remains unchanged.
What Apple HomeView is expected to do
HomeView is described as a central Siri device for an Apple-equipped home. It would combine a display with Apple’s A18 chip and rely primarily on voice control, while still allowing users to interact with the screen by touch.
The device is expected to support a limited selection of Apple applications. Unlike an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, it reportedly will not include a dedicated App Store, which would limit the software users can install and the ways developers can build for the product.
Gurman also says HomeView will provide better sound quality than the next HomePod mini. That would make the product more than a screen-based Siri controller, although the available information does not indicate whether it is intended to replace a HomePod or Apple TV.
Two designs for different rooms
Apple is reportedly preparing two HomeView versions. One would be a countertop model with a metal speaker base and four color choices: space gray, silver, starlight and pink.
The second would be designed for wall mounting. It is expected to use a flat, square base and come in fewer colors, with space gray and silver listed as the available options.
The two designs suggest Apple is targeting both shared surfaces, such as kitchen counters, and fixed locations around the home. However, the product’s final appearance and specifications have not yet been officially detailed.
Why the HomeView name matters
The HomeView name appeared in a trademark filing made by a shell company. Gurman linked the name to the upcoming device after the filing was discovered, although Apple has not been identified as the filing entity in the available information.
The “view” element reportedly reflects the product’s intended use: a display that people look at while controlling it mainly with their voices. The approach would give Siri a more visible role in the home, with HomeView acting as a dedicated command center rather than a general-purpose tablet.
Apple’s October 13 event should provide more information about the device, including its pricing, exact capabilities and availability. For now, the reported mid-November shipping window remains subject to change.
