Apple’s upcoming OLED iPad mini could cost about $799, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. That would place the tablet roughly $200 above the current iPad mini, which starts at $599.
Gurman said his sources indicate the new model will be “considerably more expensive” than the existing version. He described $799 as his estimate rather than a confirmed Apple price, so the final cost remains uncertain until the company announces the device.
Why the OLED iPad mini could cost more
The new iPad mini is expected to replace its current display with an OLED panel. OLED screens can provide deeper blacks and stronger contrast than traditional LCD displays, giving Apple a major display upgrade to use in a higher-priced model.
The tablet is also expected to receive several other hardware changes. Reported upgrades include an A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented FaceTime camera, a redesigned speaker system and a water-resistant design.
Those additions would make the next iPad mini more than a routine processor refresh, although Apple has not confirmed the specifications or pricing.
Possible Apple announcement timing
Apple could introduce the OLED iPad mini alongside new OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro models. Gurman previously said the products may be unveiled “on or around” Tuesday, October 27.
Apple has not officially announced an event or confirmed that either the iPad mini or the touchscreen MacBook Pro will launch on that date. The timing should therefore be treated as a report rather than a firm release schedule.
What the price could mean for buyers
A starting price near $799 would move the iPad mini closer to the pricing of larger and more capable tablets. That could make the current $599 model more attractive to shoppers who mainly want a compact iPad and do not need an OLED display or the rumored hardware updates.
For buyers prioritizing screen quality, newer performance and additional design changes, the higher-priced model could offer a broader upgrade. Apple’s final specifications, storage options and pricing will determine whether the new iPad mini can justify the reported increase.
Until Apple makes an announcement, both the $799 estimate and the expected feature list remain unconfirmed.
