Apple has released iOS 27 to the public after roughly three months of beta testing, but users hoping to try the redesigned Siri won't find it enabled by default. The company's overhauled assistant, called Siri AI, along with a dedicated Siri app, sits behind a waitlist that iPhone owners must join before they can use the features.

How to join the Siri AI waitlist

Signing up takes only a few taps. Apple says users should:

  1. Open the Settings app on the iPhone.
  2. Tap the Siri menu.
  3. Select Try Siri AI (Beta).
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Wait times reportedly vary widely. Some users have gained access within minutes, while others have waited hours or even days. Apple sends a notification once access is granted, and the Siri app then appears automatically on the device. From there, users can talk or type to Siri AI by swiping down on the Dynamic Island, pressing and holding the side button, or opening the app directly.

Which iPhones support Siri AI

Although iOS 27 runs on the iPhone 11 and later, Siri AI is limited to devices that support Apple Intelligence. That means the iPhone 15 Pro and newer, including the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and Pro Max, the entire iPhone 16 lineup, the iPhone 16e, the iPhone 17 range, the iPhone Air, the iPhone 17e, the iPhone Duo, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

A smaller subset of phones can also adjust Siri AI's speaking pace and expressivity: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone Duo, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, and the iPhone Air.

What the new Siri can do

The classic Siri has long handled basic tasks like setting timers and checking the weather, but it has repeatedly stumbled on more complex requests. Apple positions Siri AI as a far more capable, personalized replacement, describing an assistant closer to a ChatGPT-style chatbot that can respond to most questions.

According to Apple, Siri AI can draw on personal information stored on the iPhone, has on-screen awareness, and can carry out actions across a growing list of supported apps. The assistant launches in English only, with Apple planning to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October, likely alongside iOS 27.1.

Usage limits and regional restrictions

Apple said Siri AI carries unspecified daily usage limits, and it plans to offer expanded access through select iCloud+ plans. Notably, the feature is unavailable in the European Union on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27 at launch, which Apple attributes to its ongoing regulatory dispute with the European Commission.

Despite iOS 27 having exited its own beta phase, Apple still labels Siri AI as a beta product. That framing signals users should expect ongoing refinements as the assistant expands to more languages and more markets in the coming months.
