Apple appears to be preparing Siri AI support for the HomePod, although existing speakers may not be compatible. Code sleuth pdfu found references to “Linwood,” the system associated with Apple’s more capable Siri, in HomePod Software 27, along with redesigned status lights using Siri AI’s white, blue and orange color palette.

The discovery does not confirm when Apple will enable the features or which HomePod models will support them. Because HomePod Software 27 is already available while Siri AI is not offered on current HomePods, compatibility could be restricted to new hardware.

What the HomePod software reveals

According to pdfu, the software includes the underlying Linwood system and changes to the way Siri appears and sounds on HomePod. A demonstration shared by the code sleuth shows status lights emphasizing white, blue and orange, colors that match Siri AI’s presentation on other Apple devices.

Apple has not announced Siri AI for HomePod in the information available here, so the software references should be treated as evidence of development rather than a confirmed product launch. They do, however, suggest that Apple is adapting its newer Siri experience for its smart speakers.

New HomePod mini may need a faster chip

Rumors indicate Apple is developing an updated HomePod mini, with a faster processor expected to be its main upgrade. The speaker could use an S9 chip or newer, and may potentially receive the S11 chip used in the Apple Watch Series 12.

The next HomePod mini is not expected to receive a major exterior redesign. Apple could instead update its internal components, potentially adding the N1 networking chip, a newer Ultra Wideband chip and additional color options.

The speaker may work similarly to the Apple Watch Series 9 and later, which support Siri AI when connected to an iPhone capable of running Apple Intelligence. Under that arrangement, some Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features would depend on a compatible iPhone rather than operating entirely on the speaker.

Apple’s broader smart home plans

Apple is also expected to develop an Apple TV 4K with a processor capable of supporting Siri AI. The company is reportedly working on a dedicated home hub with Siri AI integration as well.

Those products, including the updated HomePod mini, could arrive as soon as October. Apple is also working on a refreshed full-size HomePod, although its release timing remains unclear. If the software findings point to a hardware requirement, the next HomePod mini or another upcoming model may be the first speaker to bring Apple’s newer Siri capabilities to the home.
