The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is an exceptionally large Android tablet with a 14.6-inch AMOLED display, upgraded performance and a broad set of productivity features. Its Dimensity 9500 chipset, 11,600mAh battery and included S Pen give it a strong feature set, although the front-camera notch remains a visible compromise and the box does not include a charger.
Large AMOLED display with a camera notch
The tablet uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1848 x 2960 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Samsung lists brightness at up to 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode and 1,600 nits at peak. The 14.6-inch size makes the Tab S12 Ultra well suited to multitasking, media playback and drawing with the bundled S Pen.
The display is surrounded by an ultra-slim metal body measuring 5.1mm thick. However, the front camera sits inside a small notch. It does not take up much space, but it interrupts an otherwise clean screen design.
Dimensity 9500 brings a performance upgrade
MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 powers the tablet, replacing the previous Dimensity 9400+. The updated chip is described as delivering a 19% faster CPU, a 17% faster GPU and a 61% improvement in NPU performance. That last figure is particularly relevant to the tablet’s AI-focused software features.
Storage options start at 256GB with 12GB of RAM, while higher configurations offer 512GB with 12GB or 1TB with 16GB. A dedicated microSDXC slot provides additional storage flexibility. The tablet also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, 5G and eSIM connectivity.
Productivity features and long-term software support
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra runs One UI 9 on Android 17 and is listed with support for up to seven major Android updates. Samsung DeX provides a desktop-style interface, including wireless DeX support, while an optional Pro Keyboard is available for users who want a more laptop-like setup.
The included S Pen adds value for note-taking, sketching and navigation. The tablet also has an under-display optical fingerprint reader and four stereo speakers. Its IP68 rating is unusual among large tablets, providing dust protection and resistance to immersion in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes.
Cameras, battery and what comes in the box
The rear camera system combines a 13MP wide camera with an 8MP ultrawide camera. A 12MP ultrawide camera handles video calls and selfies. Both the rear and front cameras can record 4K video at 30 frames per second.
A large 11,600mAh battery supports 45W wired charging, with a listed full-charge time of 95 minutes. Despite that charging capability, Samsung does not include a power adapter. The package contains the tablet, a 3A USB-C cable and the hexagonal S Pen.
Overall, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra focuses on screen size, sustained performance and desktop-style versatility. Its main drawbacks are the display notch and the additional cost of sourcing a compatible charger and optional keyboard.
