Google has introduced two new Metal Mesh bands for the Fitbit Air, giving its screen-less fitness tracker a more jewelry-focused look. The accessories are available in Champagne Gold and Polished Silver, and can be pre-ordered through the Google Store for $69.99 each.
The announcement came alongside Google’s unveiling of the Fitbit Edge. While the new device received the headline attention, the Fitbit Air also gained an accessory update aimed at people who want to wear the tracker beyond workouts and everyday casual settings.
Two colors and a stainless steel design
The new bands use a flexible stainless steel mesh construction. Google describes the design as one that can drape around the wrist, positioning the accessory as a more polished alternative to a conventional fitness tracker band.
Buyers can choose between Champagne Gold and Polished Silver. The two finishes are intended to make the Fitbit Air look more like a jewelry accessory while retaining its role as a fitness tracker.
Google said the bands are designed to take the Fitbit Air from day to night. That framing is particularly relevant for the screen-less tracker, which has a less prominent device profile than a traditional smartwatch.
Fitbit Air Metal Mesh band pricing and availability
Each Metal Mesh band costs $69.99. Google is accepting pre-orders through its online store, where shoppers can select either finish.
Google is also offering a Champagne Gold Metal Mesh band bundled with an Obsidian Fitbit Air for $149.99. The bundle is available through the Google Store and Target.
The accessory-only listings give existing Fitbit Air owners a way to change the tracker’s appearance without buying another device. New customers can instead purchase the tracker and band together through the bundle, although the announced bundle is limited to the Champagne Gold band and Obsidian Fitbit Air combination.
What the new bands change
The Metal Mesh bands do not add new tracking features to the Fitbit Air. Their purpose is visual and practical: they offer a flexible stainless steel option for users who want the tracker to fit more easily with dressier clothing or evening wear.
Google’s positioning also broadens the role of the Fitbit Air from a fitness-focused wearable to an accessory intended for continuous wear. The two finishes provide a choice between a warmer gold appearance and a more neutral silver style.
Pre-orders are now available through Google’s online store. The Champagne Gold bundle is also listed as available at Target.
