Huawei's Watch D3 is the latest model in the company's health-focused Watch D line, and early impressions point to several meaningful upgrades over the Watch D2. The new smartwatch arrives with a larger and brighter screen, a slimmer case, newer Bluetooth connectivity and a slightly larger battery. A full assessment of its health features and battery life is still in progress.

Huawei Watch D3 unboxing

The Watch D3 includes a magnetic wireless charging puck, an M-sized strap with an integrated airbag for blood pressure measurements, a wrist circumference ruler and the watch itself. The charging accessory now uses USB-C rather than the USB-A connector supplied with the previous model.

The airbag strap remains central to the Watch D line's health-focused design. Huawei includes the ruler to help users measure their wrist circumference before fitting the strap, while the dedicated airbag supports the watch's blood pressure measurement feature.

What has changed from the Watch D2

The display has grown from 1.82 inches on the Watch D2 to 1.92 inches on the Watch D3. Brightness has also doubled from 1,500 nits to 3,000 nits, which should make the screen easier to view in bright outdoor conditions.

Huawei has reduced the case thickness from 13.3mm to 11.3mm. Despite the thinner design, the watch reportedly retains the light and comfortable feel associated with its predecessor. The Watch D2 was considered premium in feel, although its surface was noted as being prone to scratches. The new model will need longer-term testing to determine whether that durability issue has improved.

Connectivity has received an update as well. The Watch D3 uses Bluetooth 6.0, replacing the Bluetooth 5.2 standard found on the Watch D2. The watch also has a slightly larger battery, although its real-world impact remains to be established.

Battery life and pricing

The Watch D2 delivered around six days of use with its always-on display enabled and about 10 days with that feature turned off during testing. The Watch D3's larger battery could improve on those figures, but that question will require additional testing.

Huawei lists the Watch D3 at £400, and the smartwatch is currently on sale. The final review will examine whether the hardware changes, health features and battery performance justify that price.

Huawei Watch D3 review status

The initial hands-on stage suggests that Huawei has focused on refining the Watch D2 rather than radically changing the Watch D formula. A brighter display, slimmer body and USB-C charging address practical areas, while Bluetooth 6.0 provides a newer connectivity foundation.

More time is needed to assess the Watch D3's scratch resistance, blood pressure measurements and endurance. Those results will determine how substantial the upgrade is for existing Watch D2 owners and whether the new model is a strong option for shoppers seeking a health-oriented smartwatch.
