LG Electronics is reportedly developing a broad range of smart home accessories for Apple’s upcoming home hub and other Apple home products. The planned lineup includes a wired video doorbell, thermostat, smart deadbolt, temperature sensor and several types of security cameras.
Documents submitted by LG to the Federal Communications Commission and UL Solutions identify the company’s work on the devices, according to Bloomberg. The filings do not mention Apple, and LG asked the FCC to keep details about the products confidential. Bloomberg reports that Apple helped develop the accessories, which will be built and branded by LG.
What LG’s Apple accessories may include
The reported product range would give Apple a presence in several smart home categories where it currently relies heavily on third-party hardware. LG is said to be preparing an indoor security camera, an outdoor security camera and a floodlight camera, alongside the doorbell and smart lock.
Several of the devices support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Matter. The smart lock is also expected to include ultra-wideband, or UWB, connectivity, which could enable automatic unlocking when an authorised device is nearby.
The use of Matter and Thread could help the accessories work across compatible smart home platforms while also fitting into Apple’s Home ecosystem. The available information does not specify pricing, final designs or the complete set of Apple-specific features.
Why Apple may be working with LG
Working with a second-party supplier would allow Apple to broaden its smart home range without taking on the full manufacturing and support burden for every accessory. Apple could contribute to industrial design, engineering and feature development while LG handles production and sells the products under its own brand.
Apple has a long-standing relationship with LG. LG Display supplies components for Apple products, and the two companies previously worked together on UltraFine 4K and 5K displays designed for Mac users. LG also acquired a majority stake in smart home platform Homey in 2024, giving it a stronger position in connected-home software and devices.
When the devices could arrive
Apple is expected to introduce a new home hub, Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini on October 13, according to the report. However, LG’s accessories are not expected to be ready at the same time and could launch several months later.
The products would place LG in more direct competition with established smart home ecosystems including Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Ring and Google Nest. For Apple users, the partnership could provide more options for door security, monitoring and home automation while keeping Apple involved in how those accessories work with its own platforms.
