Huawei’s Mate 90 Pro Max is expected to arrive in October, and a new rumor has outlined several of its potential specifications. The claims point to a flagship phone with Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, a next-generation dual-layer OLED display and major camera upgrades.

The information comes from Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu, so the details remain unconfirmed. Huawei has not officially announced the Mate 90 series or confirmed the specifications described in the report.

Kirin 9050 Pro chipset reportedly planned

According to Smart Pikachu, the Mate 90 Pro Max will use the Kirin 9050 Pro. The same chipset is also said to power Huawei’s recently launched Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design tri-folding phone.

The rumor does not provide performance figures, manufacturing details or other information about the platform. However, using the same chip across two high-end devices would give Huawei a shared foundation for its premium smartphone lineup.

Dual-layer OLED display may include privacy option

The Mate 90 Pro Max is also tipped to feature a next-generation dual-layer OLED display. The source adds that Huawei could offer an optional privacy screen, although it does not explain whether this would be an integrated display feature or an accessory.

Dual-layer OLED technology is the main display change mentioned in the latest leak. No screen size, resolution, refresh rate or brightness specifications have been provided.

Camera upgrades focus on zoom and imaging

Photography could be one of the phone’s most significant upgrades. The Mate 90 Pro Max is reportedly set to include a 200MP periscope telephoto camera and an improved ultrawide camera. It is also expected to use a new-generation Red Maple imaging system.

Smart Pikachu previously claimed that the phone would have a dual-telephoto setup similar to the Mate 80 Pro Max, but with support for up to 10x optical zoom. The latest information does not clarify how that earlier claim relates to the newly mentioned 200MP periscope camera.

The flagship is additionally rumored to use a primary rear camera sensor measuring close to one inch. A sensor of that size could improve light capture and image quality, but the available information does not specify the sensor model or the camera’s resolution.

What remains unconfirmed

Huawei has yet to confirm the Mate 90 Pro Max, its launch date or any of the rumored hardware details. The reported October launch window, chipset, display technology and camera specifications should therefore be treated as unverified until the company provides official information.
