Honor’s upcoming Win2 series will use what Visionox describes as the world’s first 2K display with a 185Hz refresh rate. The panel maker says it developed the screen in partnership with Honor for the Win2, Win2 RT and Win2 Turbo, which are expected to launch next week.
The display announcement adds another gaming-focused feature to a series already defined by active cooling and unusually large batteries. Honor is reportedly preparing a 10,100 mAh battery for the standard Win2, while the Win2 RT is expected to use a larger 12,070 mAh cell.
A 2K panel with a 185Hz refresh rate
In a Weibo post, Visionox said manufacturers often choose between higher resolution and faster refresh rates. The company claims its work with Honor removes that compromise, allowing the Win2 series to combine 2K resolution with a 185Hz refresh rate.
A refresh rate of 185Hz could make animations and supported games appear smoother than on the 120Hz panels commonly used in current smartphones. However, the practical benefit will depend on whether games can consistently render at frame rates high enough to use the display’s full capability.
Fast touch response and narrow bezels
Visionox’s panel is also designed to reduce input delay during gaming. It supports a 5,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate and a 520Hz reporting rate for ten-finger touch, according to the company.
The screen will have 0.93mm bezels on all four sides. Visionox also says it uses 5,920Hz PWM dimming, a technology intended to make brightness control more comfortable during extended viewing sessions, including long gaming sessions.
Honor Win2 series hardware
The three Win2 models are expected to target mobile gaming, with the series reportedly powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. Active cooling should help the phones manage heat during demanding workloads, although the available information does not specify how the cooling system will differ between models.
The large batteries could also help offset the power demands of a high-refresh-rate display and sustained gaming performance. At the same time, a 185Hz mode may not always be available across every game or application. Devices with refresh rates above 120Hz have often delivered their maximum rates only in selected titles.
Honor has continued teasing the lineup ahead of its launch, but it has not yet provided further details about pricing or broader availability in the information available here.
