Apple has begun inviting selected members of the media to an all-day product launch experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. The gathering is expected to focus on touchscreen MacBooks, Macs powered by new M6 chips and an updated iPad mini.
Apple has not clarified whether the product announcements will happen during the October 28 event or earlier. Gurman previously said Apple would introduce the devices on or around Tuesday, October 27, with an online video presentation followed by an opportunity for members of the media to try the products.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro models reportedly planned
The most significant expected announcement is a redesigned pair of high-end MacBook Pro models with touchscreen displays. The rumored laptops are expected to include 14-inch and 16-inch versions, OLED screens, and a Dynamic Island.
The redesign is also expected to make the laptops substantially lighter than current models. Earlier speculation suggested Apple might call the computers “MacBook Ultra,” but Gurman previously indicated that Apple would likely keep them within the MacBook Pro family instead.
A touchscreen MacBook would represent a notable change for Apple’s notebook lineup, although the available information does not confirm the final design, specifications or launch timing. Apple has not announced these products publicly.
M6 Macs and OLED iPad mini may join the launch
Apple is also expected to introduce M6 versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. The reports do not provide further details about the M6 chip or explain whether these computers will receive broader design changes alongside the processor update.
The next iPad mini is reportedly set for a more substantial update. Expected changes include an OLED display, a front-facing camera moved to a landscape-oriented position for video calls, and a redesigned speaker system.
Moving the camera for landscape calls would bring the smaller tablet closer to the layout used by some larger iPad models, while an OLED panel could improve contrast and viewing quality. However, the reported features remain unconfirmed until Apple announces the device.
When Apple could announce the products
The October 28 date currently applies specifically to the media experience. Gurman’s earlier reporting pointed to announcements on or around October 27, creating the possibility that Apple could reveal the products through an online presentation before the Los Angeles gathering.
The company’s invitations should provide a clearer indication of how Apple plans to stage the launch once more details become available. For now, the reported lineup suggests Apple may update both its professional Mac range and its smallest iPad during the same product cycle.
