Apple has announced a product launch for Tuesday, October 13, with the “Welcome Home” theme pointing to a renewed focus on smart home hardware. The company has not said which products will appear, or whether the launch will be a traditional event or a press-release announcement.

Apple is widely expected to introduce a new smart home hub, an updated Apple TV 4K and a refreshed HomePod mini. An OLED iPad mini is also reportedly in development and could be included, although its timing remains uncertain.

What to expect from Apple’s smart home hub

The most significant rumored product is an all-new home hub positioned between an iPad and a HomePod. Reports suggest it could feature a square display measuring about 6 inches and serve as a shared control center for the home.

The device is expected to let household members manage smart home accessories, make FaceTime calls, watch video, check news and weather, and view calendar information. Siri AI would provide the primary voice-based method of interaction.

Apple is reportedly considering multiple designs, including a wall-mounted version and another with a half-dome speaker base reminiscent of the iMac G4. A camera and presence sensor could identify when someone enters a room and determine who is present, allowing the hub to display a personalized collection of apps and widgets.

Apple is also said to envision placing one hub in multiple rooms. Pricing could be around $350, though that figure has not been confirmed.

HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K updates

The HomePod mini is reportedly due for new color options, along with Apple’s N1 networking chip for improved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance. A faster S-series processor is also expected, potentially enabling support for Siri AI features.

The next Apple TV 4K could receive a major internal upgrade. Rumored changes include an A19 or A19 Pro chip, more RAM, the N1 networking chip and an updated Siri Remote. Apple has not confirmed any of these specifications.

OLED iPad mini could also appear

An OLED iPad mini is another possible addition to the October launch. The smaller tablet is reportedly being developed with a faster chip, greater water resistance and the first OLED display in an iPad mini.

It remains unclear whether Apple plans to present the iPad mini alongside its home products. The company is also believed to have several new Macs in development for release before the end of the year, but those machines may be announced separately.

Apple Experience gathering planned in New York

Some members of the media have been invited to an “Apple Experience” gathering in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood on October 13 at 9 a.m. Attendees are expected to receive hands-on time with products introduced that day.

That gathering could offer more detail about Apple’s smart home strategy, even if the company does not hold a conventional keynote. Apple has not disclosed the launch timing or confirmed the product lineup.
