Apple has removed Intel-based Macs from the compatibility lists for its Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad, leaving the accessories officially listed for Apple silicon Macs only. The change appeared on Apple’s product pages around August 25, and the company updated related technical specifications pages this week.
The update does not appear to prevent Intel Mac owners from using either accessory. The Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad continue to work with Intel-based Macs, according to the available information. Apple has not explained why those computers no longer appear in the compatibility details.
What changed in Apple’s compatibility listings
Apple’s online product information for the current Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad no longer includes Intel Macs in its compatibility lists. The same change has also been reflected in related Apple Support pages covering the accessories’ technical specifications and product details.
Apple silicon refers to the company’s own Mac processors, including the M-series chips. Intel-based Macs use processors from Intel and were sold alongside Apple silicon models during the company’s transition between the two platforms.
The revised listings therefore distinguish between Macs based on Apple’s chip architecture, rather than indicating that the accessories have stopped functioning with older computers. Owners of compatible Intel Macs may still be able to pair and use the accessories as before.
Intel Mac support remains unclear
Apple has not said whether the revised lists reflect a technical requirement, a documentation change, or a decision to narrow official support for older Macs. There is no stated change to the Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad that would explain why Intel compatibility was removed.
For Intel Mac owners, the immediate practical effect appears limited. The accessories can still work with those machines, but their absence from Apple’s published compatibility information could make it harder for buyers to confirm official support before purchasing.
The change may also matter to users who rely on Apple’s product pages when replacing an older mouse or trackpad. Apple’s current listings now direct compatibility attention toward Apple silicon Macs, even though the underlying accessories remain usable with Intel hardware.
Where Apple lists compatibility
Apple’s Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad product pages provide the current purchasing and compatibility information. The company’s Support pages contain related technical specifications and product details.
- Apple no longer lists Intel-based Macs for the Magic Mouse.
- Intel-based Macs were also removed from the Magic Trackpad compatibility information.
- The accessories still work with Intel Macs.
- Apple has not explained the reason for the listing change.
Until Apple provides clarification, the updated pages should be read as a change to Apple’s stated compatibility information, not confirmation that the accessories have become technically incompatible with Intel Macs.
