Apple has released the second beta of iOS 27.2 to registered developers, one week after distributing the first build. The company also made a second iPadOS 27.2 beta available for testing.

The software is an early release intended for development and testing rather than general use. Registered developers can install it by opening Settings > General > Software Update, choosing Beta Updates, and selecting the iOS 27 developer beta option.

What’s new in iOS 27.2

iOS 27.2 includes Apple’s redesigned Health app, which adds new Insight and Longevity tabs. The update also expands Siri AI support with additional languages.

Apple’s upcoming software release includes other new features as well, although the second beta may bring further changes as testing continues. Developers will be able to use the preview builds to identify issues and prepare their apps for the eventual public release.

Why iOS 27.1 has not arrived yet

Apple’s decision to release an iOS 27.2 beta before an iOS 27.1 beta is unusual. The sequencing is likely connected to the company’s planned iPhone Duo launch, which is expected to take place on Friday, October 23, with iOS 27.1 installed.

iOS 27.1 is expected to introduce features designed for the iPhone Duo’s two displays. Those features include updated app layouts, a vertical dock, a vertical Dynamic Island, side-by-side app multitasking, and exclusive capabilities in the Camera app.

Holding back iOS 27.1 could allow Apple to keep those device-specific features from being revealed before the iPhone Duo arrives. Apple will need to release the update before the phone ships.

Expected release timing

Because the iPhone Duo is scheduled to launch in October with iOS 27.1, that update will need to reach users before October 23. iOS 27.2 is also expected to launch during October, partly because its new Siri AI languages are included in the release.

The second beta does not establish a final public release date. Apple is likely to continue testing iOS 27.2 alongside work on the separate iOS 27.1 update, with additional beta versions possible before either update reaches all users.
