Apple has released version 1.12.0 of Apple Invites, adding three features designed to improve how hosts create events and how guests participate. The update brings full-resolution photo sharing to shared albums, adds photorealistic backgrounds through Image Playground, and replaces manual email verification codes with a link that guests can tap.
The free iPhone app is used to create invitations for events such as birthday parties and baby showers. While receiving an invitation and responding to an event remains free on any device, creating an event requires an iCloud+ subscription with at least 50GB of storage. That plan costs $0.99 per month.
Full-resolution photos in shared albums
Apple Invites now allows shared albums to support full-resolution photo sharing. That means event participants can view and contribute photos without the app reducing them to a lower resolution.
The feature is also open to people who do not use Apple devices. Apple says anyone can join a shared album and contribute, which makes it possible for guests using different platforms to add photos to the same event collection.
Photorealistic backgrounds for invitations
The update expands Image Playground’s role in the invitation creation process. Users can now generate high-quality backgrounds in a broad range of styles, including photorealistic designs.
These backgrounds let hosts adjust the visual feel of an invitation to better match the event. Apple describes the feature as a way to create an invite that captures the intended atmosphere, whether the design calls for a realistic image or another style.
Email verification gets a simpler login flow
Guests who need to verify their email address can now tap a link sent to their inbox instead of typing a verification code. The change removes an extra manual step when accessing an event and should make the RSVP process more straightforward for affected guests.
Guests can still respond to event invitations without paying for an Apple subscription, and they can do so from any device after opening the event link.
Apple Invites 1.12.0 availability
Version 1.12.0 is available now through the App Store. Alongside the three highlighted additions, Apple’s release notes mention general bug fixes and performance improvements.
Apple launched Invites in February 2025 as a dedicated way to organize events and share invitations. The latest update focuses on three areas of that experience: preserving the quality of shared memories, giving hosts more design options, and reducing friction for guests joining an event.
