Apple appears to have quietly increased the iCloud Mail alias limit from three addresses to nine. The expanded allowance is currently visible at iCloud.com, although Apple has not publicly announced the change and its support documentation still lists three as the maximum.
The increase was first noticed by a Reddit user last week and was subsequently observed by another member of Apple’s online community. The change means iCloud Mail users may now be able to create up to six additional aliases beyond the limit Apple has documented for the service.
iCloud Mail now shows a higher alias limit
Apple’s iCloud web interface appears to reflect the new nine-alias allowance. Because the change is live rather than merely appearing in a rumor or a product discussion, it may represent a deliberate update to iCloud Mail. However, Apple has not provided an explanation or confirmed that the new limit is permanent.
The lack of an announcement leaves open the possibility that Apple is testing the change. Still, the expanded limit appears less likely to be an accidental display issue because it has been noticed by multiple people and is available through iCloud.com.
Apple’s support guide still lists three aliases
Apple’s iCloud User Guide has not caught up with the apparent change. The guide continues to say that users can create up to three @icloud.com email aliases, creating a mismatch between Apple’s written documentation and the limit currently shown on the web service.
That discrepancy could be resolved if Apple updates the guide, or the company could revert the limit if the change is experimental. Until Apple clarifies the situation, users should treat nine as the currently observed limit rather than a formally documented policy.
Why the change matters for iCloud users
Email aliases allow users to create additional iCloud Mail addresses associated with the same account. Raising the cap gives users more flexibility when they need separate addresses while continuing to use iCloud Mail.
The change is a modest update, but it gives existing iCloud users a useful increase without requiring a new subscription or a separate account, based on the currently visible behavior. Apple has not indicated whether the higher limit will be extended across all accounts or remain available only during a test.
For now, the clearest signs point to a live increase from three aliases to nine at iCloud.com, while Apple’s official documentation remains unchanged.
