Apple’s next HomePod mini appears to retain the original model’s design while introducing five color options, according to images and product references found in Apple’s own code. The files specifically identify the speaker as the “HomePod mini 2,” suggesting that development is nearing a public release.

The updated speaker is expected to come in green, pink, blue, white, and black. Apple’s new blue finish appears slightly lighter than the blue used for the current HomePod mini, while the other colors would give the lineup a different look from the existing selection.

HomePod mini 2 colors and design

The available product images show a speaker that closely resembles the first-generation HomePod mini. Apple is not expected to make major external changes to the compact, fabric-covered spherical design.

The current HomePod mini measures 3.3 inches and uses a backlit touch surface for playback and volume controls. Its small footprint, 360-degree audio output, Siri integration, smart home controls, and ability to pair with another unit for stereo sound have helped make it Apple’s most accessible smart speaker.

The color lineup would change significantly from the current model. Today’s HomePod mini is available in yellow, orange, blue, white, and midnight. The new green, pink, and black finishes would replace several of those options, while white and blue would remain part of the range.

Possible HomePod mini 2 launch timing

The presence of product images and HomePod mini 2 references in Apple’s code does not confirm a launch date, but it indicates that the product may be approaching release. The speaker is expected to arrive before the end of 2026, although Apple has not announced it.

Apple introduced the original HomePod mini in October 2020 at $99 before later increasing its price to $129. The speaker originally launched in white and space gray and was built around Apple’s S5 chip, which supports computational audio features.

What could change inside

A new chip is widely expected for the second-generation model. Reports have also suggested that the HomePod mini 2 could support Siri AI features, but those capabilities remain unconfirmed.

The current model combines a full-range driver, two passive radiators, and an acoustic waveguide to produce its audio output. It also supports multiroom playback and Intercom messages between Apple devices. Apple could use updated internal hardware to extend those features, but the code discovery does not provide specific technical details.

For now, the clearest indications are the product name, the familiar design, and the five reported finishes. Apple has not yet provided official specifications, pricing, or a release date for the HomePod mini 2.
