Xiaomi has revealed the rear camera specifications for its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, including a pair of 200MP sensors and a periscope telephoto camera with macro-focusing support. The company also shared sample photos captured with both cameras ahead of the phones’ launch in China tomorrow.
The camera details appeared in separate posts from Xiaomi on Weibo. They confirm that the 18 Pro series will use a Leica-branded 200MP primary camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, alongside a 200MP periscope telephoto camera using a 1/1.56-inch sensor.
Xiaomi 18 Pro camera specifications
The periscope camera will have an f/2.4 aperture, a native focal length of 75mm and 3.2x optical zoom. Xiaomi also says it can focus on subjects as close as 12cm, giving the telephoto camera a role in close-up photography as well as portrait and zoom shots.
Sensor size and aperture can affect how much light a camera captures, particularly in darker scenes. Xiaomi claims the telephoto camera in the Xiaomi 18 Pro can take in 280% more light than the equivalent camera on the Xiaomi 17 Pro. For the 18 Pro Max, the company claims an 83% increase in light intake compared with the 17 Pro Max.
Those figures are Xiaomi’s own comparisons, and real-world image quality will depend on factors such as image processing, focusing and shooting conditions. The company has not yet provided the full camera specifications for every rear sensor in the phones.
Camera samples shared before launch
Xiaomi has published several sample images from the new main and telephoto cameras. The samples offer an early look at the phones’ photography capabilities, although they do not establish how the final images will compare with competing flagship devices.
The use of two 200MP rear cameras could give the Pro models more flexibility across standard, zoom and close-up photography. The telephoto sensor’s relatively large stated size and short minimum focusing distance are especially notable for users who frequently photograph people, details or nearby subjects.
Xiaomi 18 Pro launch details
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are scheduled to be unveiled in China tomorrow. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the phones will include an upgraded rear display, a hardware-level privacy display and larger batteries than their predecessors.
The upcoming flagships are expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, which has not yet been officially announced. Xiaomi’s launch event should provide the remaining details, including pricing, availability and the complete hardware specifications for both models.
