Weixin Pay has launched TenPayGo, a dedicated payment app designed to help international visitors pay for purchases in China. The app works anywhere Weixin Pay is accepted and allows travelers to use familiar cards and overseas digital wallets instead of setting up a separate local payment account.
TenPayGo is positioned as a simpler entry point for tourists who may not already use WeChat or Weixin Pay. Visitors can download the app, register with an email address and select how they want to fund transactions.
How TenPayGo payments work
The service supports Apple Pay, direct card payments and other international e-wallets. TenPayGo says nearly 60 overseas wallets are supported, although the available options may vary by user and region.
Once an account is configured, purchases made through TenPayGo in China are charged to the selected card or mobile wallet. The app can therefore act as an intermediary for payments while retaining compatibility with the existing Weixin Pay acceptance network.
That could make everyday spending more straightforward for visitors, particularly in situations where cards or cash are not accepted directly. Users can make payments through one travel-focused app rather than switching between different payment methods during a trip.
Translation and landmark recognition included
TenPayGo also includes tools intended for sightseeing and daily travel. Users can take a photo of a landmark or object and use the app to identify it. A translation feature can also translate menus, helping visitors navigate restaurants and other services.
These features make the app more than a payment tool, although payment remains its central purpose. The combination is aimed at common challenges faced by tourists who are unfamiliar with local destinations, signs and menus.
Public transport and tax refunds are coming
TenPayGo will soon add support for public-transport tickets in Shenzhen, according to the service’s launch announcement. The app is also expected to support easier tax refunds, with Shenzhen again set to receive the feature first.
The Shenzhen rollout suggests that some of TenPayGo’s travel services will be introduced gradually rather than being available across China from the beginning. The payment function, however, is intended to work wherever Weixin Pay is accepted.
TenPayGo’s launch gives overseas visitors another way to use China’s app-based payment infrastructure while keeping their existing international payment methods. For travelers, the main benefit is a single setup process that combines payments with several practical travel functions.
