vivo is set to unveil the V80 on October 6, introducing the latest model in its V-series smartphone line. The company has positioned the phone around its ability to capture “cinematic moments”, while confirming a large battery, a high-refresh-rate OLED display and a ZEISS-branded camera system.
The launch is being led by vivo India, with the event expected to answer several remaining questions about the phone. These include the processor replacing the V70’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the V80’s pricing and when it will reach markets beyond India. The event is also expected to provide the first look at OriginOS 7, based on Android 17, outside China.
vivo V80 display and battery
The V80 will feature a 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. vivo has also listed a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, a specification aimed at improving visibility in bright conditions.
Powering the phone is a 7,200mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging. That represents an increase over the V70’s 6,500mAh battery, while retaining the same charging rating. The larger capacity could give the V80 an advantage in endurance, although real-world battery life will depend on the final hardware and software configuration.
Four ZEISS-branded cameras
Photography is another major focus of the V80. The phone will have four ZEISS-branded cameras, including a 50MP front-facing camera with autofocus and an ultra-wide 92-degree lens. The selfie camera will support a zoom range from 0.8x to 2x.
On the rear, the main camera will use a 50MP Sony Lytia 700V sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches and include CIPA 4.5 optical image stabilisation. A second 50MP camera will provide 3x telephoto shooting through a 1/1.95-inch Sony IMX882 sensor, with optical stabilisation also included. The rear camera setup will be completed by an ultra-wide camera.
For video, vivo has confirmed 4K Cinematic Video recording, including 4K capture at 60 frames per second. The company’s teaser campaign has centred on cinematic-style recording, making the video features an important part of the launch presentation.
What the launch still needs to reveal
Although vivo has disclosed several specifications, the V80’s chipset and price remain unconfirmed. The company has also not detailed its launch schedule for other regions. Those details, along with the phone’s final configuration and software experience, should emerge during the unveiling.
vivo India has been sharing teaser clips through its Instagram account ahead of the event. The presentation will provide the first complete view of the V80 and clarify how it differs from the recently announced V80 Lite and its V70 predecessor.
