vivo has unveiled OriginOS 7, the latest version of its Android-based software, built on Android 17. The company says the update focuses on long-term smoothness, faster everyday interactions and tighter connections with computers and Apple accessories.
OriginOS 7 enters a Preview Program today for the vivo X300 Pro and select iQOO devices in India, Thailand and Malaysia. The program is effectively an open beta, although vivo has not provided a broader rollout schedule in the supplied announcement.
OriginOS 7 performance changes
The software introduces the next-generation Origin Smooth Engine, which vivo describes as a redesign spanning graphics computation, memory management and system scheduling. Its Ultra-Core Computing system dynamically directs processing resources toward areas with the greatest demand, with the aim of keeping the interface responsive during intensive use.
According to vivo, OriginOS 7 starts apps from a cold launch 10% faster than its predecessor and switches between app pages 11% faster. A revised rendering pipeline is said to improve rendering efficiency by 14.4%.
Memory Fusion has also been updated. vivo claims the system can reclaim memory 60% more effectively and free up as much as 25GB of additional storage on a 256GB device. The company says the broader design is intended to remain smooth after six years of daily use, though that claim will need to be assessed in longer-term testing.
Fluid animations and new personalization tools
OriginOS 7 applies physics-inspired behavior to common interactions, including swipes, taps and transitions. Its Fluid Motion system is designed to make interface elements stretch, bounce and merge in response to the speed and direction of a user’s finger.
Several new visual features build on that approach. Wiggle Theme turns photos into touch-reactive surfaces, while Glint Theme uses a phone’s gyroscope to adjust light and shadows as the device moves. StickIt creates layered collages from photos and Live Photos for the lock screen, home screen and Always-On Display.
Pet Pals adds interactive pets that react to motion, charging, music playback and the shift from day to night.
Apple device support and Jovi integration
vivo is expanding cross-device functionality with support for pairing an Apple Watch and displaying its notifications. Essential workout and health information can be synchronized with the Origin Health app. Origin Island can show AirPods battery levels, and OriginOS 7 supports Spatial Audio.
vivo Office Kit continues to connect phones with iPad, macOS and Windows devices. Files stored in iCloud can also be accessed through the vivo File Manager.
Jovi, vivo’s cross-device personal agent, is integrated with OriginOS 7 and Office Kit. It can coordinate tasks between connected phones and computers and handle scheduled tasks. vivo says every autonomous action is recorded transparently, while key steps require direct user authorization.
OriginOS 7 preview availability
The first preview is limited to the vivo X300 Pro and select iQOO models in India, Thailand and Malaysia. Users in those markets will be able to test the Android 17-based software before vivo expands availability, but the announcement does not specify which additional devices or regions will follow.
