OnePlus 15 users in India can now register for the ColorOS 17 Open Beta, giving them an early look at the software just days before Oppo’s planned global launch on October 13. The registration period runs from October 9 through October 12.
The build is a pre-release version rather than the final software. OnePlus is therefore warning eligible users to protect their data before installing it, since beta software can include problems that are not present in a finished release.
ColorOS 17 beta is limited to India for now
At launch, the early-access program is available only to OnePlus users in India. The source does not specify how many participants will be accepted or when registrations will open in other markets.
Users considering the beta should treat it as testing software, not a standard system update. OnePlus says that backing up personal data is important before installation because unexpected issues may occur during the trial.
Rolling back to OxygenOS 16 will erase data
OnePlus will provide a rollback package for users who decide to leave the beta and return to OxygenOS 16. However, the rollback process will completely erase the device’s data.
That makes a separate backup especially important for anyone testing ColorOS 17. Users should also be prepared to restore their content and settings after the rollback rather than expecting the phone to return to its previous state unchanged.
OnePlus 15 is moving away from OxygenOS
The final ColorOS 17 release will mark a permanent software transition for OnePlus 15 users, ending OxygenOS on the device once the stable build arrives. The change makes this beta more significant than a routine preview, even though the current software remains unfinished.
Oppo has revealed few specific details about ColorOS 17 so far. Its previews have highlighted phrases such as “fluid motion” and “refined visuals,” pointing to changes involving the interface and animations. The company is expected to disclose the software’s broader feature set during the October 13 launch.
Until then, OnePlus 15 owners must choose between early access and the risks associated with beta software. Anyone whose phone is needed for reliable daily use may want to wait for the final release, particularly because returning to OxygenOS 16 requires a full data wipe.
