Samsung’s Galaxy S27+ may not include ultra-wideband connectivity, according to newly surfaced listings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. If accurate, the change would remove a feature that has been available on Samsung’s Plus models since the Galaxy S21+.
The listing reportedly covers four expected members of Samsung’s 2027 flagship lineup: the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra. Only the Pro and Ultra models are identified as supporting UWB, while the Galaxy S27+ is left off the list.
What the MIIT listing reportedly shows
UWB support is also absent from the standard Galaxy S27, although that would be less unexpected. Samsung’s previous standard Galaxy S models have not generally included the technology. The more notable change concerns the Galaxy S27+, which has traditionally occupied a position closer to the Ultra in size and several connectivity features.
The reported split could point to a change in Samsung’s product strategy. The Galaxy S27 Pro may become the model for customers seeking higher-end features without choosing the Ultra, while the S27+ could serve primarily as a larger-screen alternative at a lower price. That interpretation remains speculative because Samsung has not announced the phones or confirmed their specifications.
Why UWB matters for Galaxy owners
Ultra-wideband enables more precise location and direction information than standard Bluetooth. On compatible phones and accessories, it can help users locate nearby items with greater accuracy instead of relying only on a general proximity estimate.
If the reported omission is carried into the final hardware, the Galaxy S27+ would reportedly lack precise tracking support for Samsung’s SmartTag 3 and similar accessories. The phone would instead rely on Bluetooth 6.0 positioning, which is described as considerably less accurate for this type of tracking.
Release timing leaves room for changes
The Galaxy S27 family is expected to arrive in early 2027, leaving substantial time for Samsung’s specifications and regional configurations to change. The MIIT entry could also contain an error or reflect a version intended for a particular market.
For now, the listing is best treated as an early indication rather than confirmation. Samsung has not yet provided official details about the Galaxy S27 series, including its launch date, pricing or connectivity features. More regulatory filings and company announcements should clarify whether UWB will remain exclusive to the Pro and Ultra models.
