RedMagic has launched the 12 Pro+ gaming phone in China, combining a claimed industry-first 185Hz under-display display with an RGB-lit liquid-cooling system. The handset also features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The company says the phone will be released internationally as the RedMagic 12 Pro. It plans to announce global specifications, pricing and availability on November 3.
185Hz display and under-screen camera
The RedMagic 12 Pro+ uses a 6.85-inch AMOLED panel with a 1216x2688 resolution. It reaches 1,900 nits in high-brightness mode and a claimed peak brightness of 5,000 nits, while Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front.
A ninth-generation 16MP under-display selfie camera, developed with BOE, sits behind the screen. RedMagic says the phone has a 0.96mm bezel and a 96.3% screen-to-body ratio. An ultrasonic fingerprint reader is also hidden beneath the display.
On the rear, the camera system includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and 8K video recording, alongside a 50MP ultrawide camera.
RGB liquid cooling targets sustained gaming performance
The phone’s circular rear cooling module includes RGB lighting that can respond to events during gameplay. RedMagic says its dual-loop liquid-cooling system surrounds both the processor and battery.
The integrated micro-pump is claimed to be 85% more powerful than the unit in the RedMagic 11 Pro+, while using as little as 20mW. The cooling design also includes a fan capable of reaching 25,500 revolutions per minute, graphene thermal materials, a vapor chamber and liquid metal. Together, RedMagic describes the setup as a five-layer thermal system.
The in-house RedCore R5 gaming chip handles ray tracing, 2K upscaling and frame interpolation up to 185Hz in supported games. An updated PC Emulator can connect to Steam and run games from a user’s PC library, although RedMagic says compatibility depends on the individual title.
Large battery and gaming-focused hardware
The RedMagic 12 Pro+ contains an 8,400mAh battery with 120W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. It supports bypass charging for gaming while plugged in, as well as 22.5W reverse wired charging.
Other features include 700Hz capacitive shoulder triggers, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an IR blaster and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort output. The phone is rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance.
It measures 8.55mm thick and weighs 223g. RedMagic OS 12, based on Android 17, powers the device.
RedMagic 12 Pro+ price and availability
The phone is available in Nightfreeze and Subzero finishes, with the Skyfrost option scheduled to arrive later this year. Chinese pricing starts at CNY 6,999, approximately $980, for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
