RedMagic says its upcoming 12 Pro+ will be the world's first smartphone with an RGB liquid cooling system. The gaming-focused flagship is scheduled to launch in China on October 15, with the company highlighting a redesigned thermal system ahead of the announcement.

The phone's RGB implementation remains partly unexplained. RedMagic has not yet said how the lighting will be used or where it will appear on the device, but the company presented the feature alongside details about the phone's liquid cooling hardware in a post on Weibo.

RedMagic 12 Pro+ cooling system details

According to RedMagic, the 12 Pro+ uses a new dual-loop airflow design. The system has a substantially larger surface area than the cooling setup in the previous RedMagic 11 Pro+, which should give the phone more room to manage heat during demanding use.

The device will also include an active cooling fan. RedMagic has not disclosed further technical specifications for the fan or explained how it works with the liquid cooling loops, so the company's announcement does not yet establish how much the system will improve sustained performance.

Still, the combination of liquid cooling, dual-loop airflow and active ventilation marks the cooling system as one of the phone's main features. It also gives RedMagic a way to distinguish the 12 Pro+ from gaming phones that rely on passive heat management or less elaborate internal designs.

Snapdragon chipset and design changes

The RedMagic 12 Pro+ will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, according to the company. RedMagic has not provided additional performance figures in the information released so far.

Despite the expanded cooling hardware, the new model is expected to be slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. That combination could make the phone easier to carry while retaining the features RedMagic is emphasizing for gaming and other intensive workloads.

The 12 Pro+ will be offered in three color options. The company previously showed the phone's design and colors, while its latest announcement focuses on the internal thermal architecture and the RGB element.

RedMagic 12 Pro+ launch date

RedMagic will launch the 12 Pro+ in China on October 15. The company has not provided further details in the announcement about availability outside China, pricing, or whether the RGB liquid cooling system will be included across all color variants.

More information about the phone's lighting, cooling performance and complete specifications will therefore depend on the launch event. For now, RedMagic has confirmed a gaming smartphone that pairs its next flagship chipset with an active fan and a more extensive dual-loop cooling design.
