OnePlus has confirmed several display specifications for the OnePlus 16 ahead of the phone’s official unveiling next week. The upcoming flagship will use a BOE X4 LTPO OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz in supported gaming titles.

The 185Hz setting will not apply across the entire phone. OnePlus says the display will run at up to 165Hz during regular use, while a gaming mode can unlock the additional 20Hz in compatible games. The company named Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future, Naruto Mobile and Peace Elite among the supported titles.

OnePlus 16 refresh rate and display technology

The panel uses BOE’s X4 luminescent material and LTPO technology. OnePlus says it can reach a hardware brightness level as low as 1 nit, which is intended to make the screen more comfortable to use in very dark surroundings.

OnePlus also claims the display’s power consumption is comparable to that of a 120Hz panel, despite offering higher refresh rates. That could help limit the battery impact of smoother scrolling and high-frame-rate gaming, although the company has not provided additional power-use figures.

Eye-care features and thin bezels

The OnePlus 16 display will include TÜV Rheinland Smart Eye Protection 6.0 certification, alongside other eye-care features. The company says the phone will have bezels measuring 1.15mm and will use a LIPO, or Low-Injection Pressure Overmolding, manufacturing process.

OnePlus also listed several dedicated components associated with the display experience. These include a custom display chip, a separate chip for touch response and another chip focused on connectivity. The announcement did not provide further details about how each component will affect performance.

Other OnePlus 16 specifications

According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 16 will launch in China with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The phone will also feature a 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP primary camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

The display details add to the phone’s early hardware profile, particularly for users who prioritise fast refresh rates and mobile gaming. The 185Hz capability will depend on both the selected mode and individual game support, while everyday system use will be capped at 165Hz.
