OnePlus has confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus 16 smartphone will feature a 9,000mAh battery, making it a significant capacity upgrade over the previous model. The phone is scheduled to launch in China on October 12.
Li Jie Louis, a OnePlus executive, disclosed the battery capacity in a post on Weibo. The company has also confirmed support for 50W wireless charging, giving the OnePlus 16 a larger power reserve while retaining a high-speed wireless charging option.
OnePlus 16 battery capacity compared with the OnePlus 15
The OnePlus 16’s 9,000mAh battery is 1,700mAh larger than the 7,300mAh unit in the OnePlus 15. That represents a substantial increase in capacity and could provide longer use between charges, although actual battery life will depend on factors such as display settings, software and processor efficiency.
OnePlus is also expected to pair the larger battery with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. The source describes the processor as more efficient, which could further support endurance, but the company has not provided battery-life estimates for the new phone.
Confirmed OnePlus 16 specifications
The battery announcement adds to a growing list of details revealed ahead of the Chinese launch. OnePlus has previously confirmed that the OnePlus 16 will include a 200MP main rear camera and will be offered in three color options.
The phone will also feature a 185Hz display. Its system-wide refresh rate is set at 165Hz, suggesting that the higher panel refresh rate will not necessarily apply across the entire software experience. OnePlus has shown the device in a Mars Masterpiece colorway.
When will the OnePlus 16 launch?
OnePlus has set the OnePlus 16’s debut in China for October 12. The company has not provided further launch timing or availability details in the information released so far.
The 9,000mAh battery is currently the clearest hardware distinction over the OnePlus 15. Combined with 50W wireless charging, it could make endurance a central selling point for the next-generation phone, though independent testing will be needed to determine how the larger capacity translates into everyday use.
