Motorola has revealed the first details of the Signature 27, a flagship smartphone built around Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The phone is among the first devices to use the chip and is scheduled to launch globally later this year.

The Signature 27 is only the second model in Motorola’s Signature line. Its name also introduces a new system for the series: the final two digits refer to the year in which the phone is expected to launch.

Snapdragon processor gets larger cooling system

Motorola is pairing the new Qualcomm chipset with an ArcticMesh cooling system. The setup includes a vapor chamber that is 40% larger than the one used in the previous generation, suggesting that thermal management is a central part of the phone’s design.

Motorola has not yet published the complete specifications for the Signature 27. The company is expected to share more information, including pricing and the exact launch date, closer to release.

200MP periscope camera leads the rear setup

The phone’s camera system includes a 50MP Sony LYT 910 primary rear sensor with support for 3.5-degree optical image stabilisation. Motorola has also confirmed a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, but it has not disclosed details about the remaining cameras.

The high-resolution telephoto sensor will be one of the Signature 27’s main photographic features. However, the company has yet to explain how it will be used for zoom or whether additional camera modes will be available.

Bang & Olufsen audio and long-term software support

The Signature 27 is the first product from Motorola’s recently announced long-term partnership with Bang & Olufsen. Its audio system will carry the “Audio by B&O” branding, although Motorola has not provided further hardware or software details.

Motorola has also promised seven years of OS updates for the flagship. That commitment could make the phone a longer-lasting option for buyers, though the company has not specified the update schedule or whether the promise covers security updates separately.

Colours and launch availability

The Signature 27 will be offered in Pantone Coal Smoke and Pantone Capulet Olive. Both versions will have a textured finish on the rear panel, giving the two colour options a distinct exterior treatment.

Motorola says the phone will launch globally later this year. Pricing, full specifications and the precise release date remain unannounced.
