Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, a flagship notebook built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark SoC. The laptop starts at $2,599 and is scheduled to reach open sale on October 16 through Microsoft’s online store and select retailers worldwide.
The company announced the system at Computex earlier this year, positioning it as a high-performance Surface machine and a potential rival to Apple’s rumored MacBook Ultra. Microsoft is also offering up to $1,000 in cashback to customers who trade in an eligible MacBook Pro when buying the new laptop.
Surface Laptop Ultra specifications
The Surface Laptop Ultra uses Nvidia’s RTX Spark SoC, which combines a Blackwell-based RTX graphics processor with an Nvidia Grace CPU. Microsoft lists up to 6,144 GPU cores and up to 20 CPU cores, alongside 128GB of unified memory.
That configuration is aimed at demanding workloads that can benefit from both high-end graphics processing and large amounts of shared memory. The available information does not specify how many hardware configurations will be offered at launch, but the starting price places the laptop firmly in the premium market.
The laptop includes a 15-inch mini-LED touchscreen display. Microsoft says its peak HDR brightness is up to 25% higher than the MacBook Pro M5, giving the Surface system a claimed display advantage when viewing HDR content.
Surface Laptop Ultra price and availability
Pre-orders are now available through Microsoft’s official online store and selected retailers around the world. The Surface Laptop Ultra begins at $2,599, while regular sales are set to start on October 16.
MacBook Pro owners can reduce the effective cost through Microsoft’s trade-in promotion. The offer provides up to $1,000 in cashback for an eligible MacBook Pro purchased alongside the Surface Laptop Ultra. The final value depends on the traded-in device, although Microsoft’s announcement does not provide a full breakdown of qualifying models.
Surface RTX Spark Dev Box also goes on pre-order
Microsoft has also announced pricing and availability for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a desktop system using the same RTX Spark SoC as the laptop. The machine costs $5,999 and is available for pre-order in the United States, with shipping expected to begin in November.
The Dev Box is designed for developers and other users who need substantial AI performance. Microsoft says it can deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and includes 128GB of unified memory.
With its compact desktop form factor and shared processor platform, the Dev Box is positioned against Apple’s Mac Studio and Mac mini. The two new Surface devices therefore extend Microsoft’s RTX Spark hardware beyond mobile computing, offering both a laptop and a desktop option for users focused on graphics and AI workloads.
