Microsoft has unveiled the second-generation Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch, two Windows on ARM devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. The new models combine fanless designs with upgraded graphics, longer battery life and an 80 TOPS neural processing unit for on-device AI.
The Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1,150, while the Surface Laptop 13-inch begins at $1,200. Microsoft is also launching a redesigned Surface Mouse with haptic feedback and a customizable Copilot button for $80 in select markets from October 13.
Surface Pro 12-inch brings a portable tablet design
The Surface Pro 12-inch has a 12-inch PixelSense LCD with a 2,196 x 1,464 resolution, a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 90Hz refresh rate. The display supports touch input and the optional Surface Slim Pen, which detects 4,096 levels of pressure. Microsoft’s keyboard cover is also sold separately.

Microsoft says the processor delivers 17% faster Office productivity, 18% improved battery efficiency, 60% faster graphics and 95% faster local AI inferencing compared with the previous Surface Pro 12-inch, which used the original Snapdragon X Plus.
Battery life is rated at up to 15.5 hours of video playback or 11.5 hours of active web usage. Two USB-C 3.2 ports support charging up to 45W and DisplayPort 1.4a, allowing the tablet to drive two 4K displays at 60Hz. Wireless connections include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Surface Laptop 13-inch focuses on endurance
The Surface Laptop 13-inch has an aluminum chassis, a color-matched keyboard and a next-generation haptic trackpad. Its 13-inch PixelSense LCD offers a 1,920 x 1,280 resolution, 500 nits of peak brightness, touch support and a 60Hz refresh rate. Strengthened glass protects the display.
Like the tablet, the laptop uses a fanless Snapdragon X2 Plus platform. Configurations range from 16GB of RAM with 256GB of storage for $1,200 to 24GB of RAM with 512GB for $1,500.
The laptop weighs 1,225 grams and is 17.5mm thick when closed. Its larger battery is rated for up to 22.5 hours of video playback. Ports include two USB-C 3.2 connections, one USB-A 3.2 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Microsoft includes a 45W USB-C power adapter.
Ink Canvas adds an AI-assisted pen workflow
Microsoft is also introducing Ink Canvas, a pen-focused application for sketching, planning and design work. Rather than generating an image from a text prompt, the app can convert a user’s sketch into text.
Both computers include a 1080p Surface Studio Camera, while the Surface Pro also has a 10-megapixel rear camera. The tablet is available in Platinum, Black and Violet. The laptop is offered in Violet, Platinum and Black.
The new Surface Mouse is designed for left- and right-handed users and includes haptic feedback for events such as snapping a window into place. It uses Bluetooth 6.0, supports multiple paired devices and includes a programmable Copilot action button.
