Apple will use more than a dozen iPhone 18 Pro devices to capture footage during Apple TV’s broadcast of the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The phones will be positioned throughout Dodger Stadium to provide perspectives that conventional broadcast cameras may not easily reach.

The game is scheduled for Friday, September 18, at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. It will be part of Apple TV’s weekly Friday Night Baseball doubleheader, which subscribers can watch without an additional charge beyond their subscription.

How Apple plans to use the iPhone 18 Pro

According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro units will record live gameplay as well as activity across the ballpark. Planned footage includes batting practice, player introductions, views from the dugouts and the broader atmosphere inside Dodger Stadium.

Apple said the iPhone’s compact size will make it possible to capture angles that would be difficult to achieve with traditional broadcast equipment. The devices can be placed in locations where larger cameras would be impractical, giving viewers a closer look at parts of the game presentation beyond the main field of play.

The company has not provided additional technical details about the phones or explained which specific camera features will be used during the broadcast. The announcement instead focuses on the devices’ role as small-footprint production tools distributed around the stadium.

Apple has used iPhones in baseball broadcasts before

This is not Apple’s first experiment with iPhone-based sports coverage. During a Boston Red Sox versus Detroit Tigers broadcast at Fenway Park last year, Apple placed four iPhone 17 Pro devices around the stadium.

One of those phones was later added to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. That earlier production served as a test of how iPhone footage could supplement the camera systems traditionally used for live sports.

Using more than a dozen devices for the Dodgers-Giants game represents a larger deployment. It also gives Apple an opportunity to demonstrate how the iPhone 18 Pro can contribute to a live production while remaining less intrusive than full-sized broadcast cameras.

The Dodgers and Giants will meet on Friday, September 18, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will be available through Apple TV’s Friday Night Baseball programming.

Friday Night Baseball is included with an Apple TV subscription, so viewers do not pay a separate fee for the game. Apple’s iPhone footage is expected to appear as part of the overall broadcast rather than as a standalone viewing option.
