Apple’s iOS 27.2 beta adds a small but potentially useful reminder for anniversary dates. When a user calls someone on an anniversary saved in that person’s Contacts entry, iOS displays an alert indicating that the day is important.

The feature is part of Call Context, a system Apple introduced in iOS 27 to surface relevant information when a phone call is placed. It is designed to reduce the need to search through apps or messages for details related to the call.

How anniversary reminders work

The anniversary alert appears on the date recorded in a contact card. Users must first add the date to the relevant person’s entry in the Contacts app. To do that, open the contact, select Edit, choose add date, and select anniversary from the date options.

Once the date is saved, the reminder can appear when calling that person on the anniversary. The alert is intended to prompt the caller to acknowledge the occasion before or during the conversation.

On devices that support Apple Intelligence, Siri can also be asked to add an anniversary date to someone’s contact card. That provides an alternative to entering the information manually in Contacts.

What Call Context already does

Call Context can use information from sources such as email to show relevant details during a phone call. For example, if a user calls an airline and has a flight confirmation email from that company in the Mail app, the confirmation number can be surfaced without requiring the user to search for it.

In iOS 27, the system also works with birthdays. When a call is placed on a contact’s birthday, iOS shows a birthday-related reminder and a fireworks animation. The new anniversary option uses the same general call-time prompt, but it does not include a new animation.

iOS 27.2 release timing

iOS 27.2 is currently in beta. Apple is expected to release the update in October, although the source does not provide a specific launch date.

The feature depends on anniversary information being stored in Contacts, so it will not work for dates that have not been added to a contact card. For users who maintain those details, the update extends Call Context beyond birthdays and practical information such as travel confirmations.
