Huawei has introduced the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, a more premium version of the Mate 90 Pro Max with a redesigned exterior and a larger maximum storage option. The phone retains the Pro Max’s main hardware, but adds a supercar-inspired design, IP69 protection and configurations with up to 2TB of storage.
The Mate 90 RS is available in Crimson, Pure White and Jet Black. Its most distinctive feature is an octagonal camera island with a raised central panel extending toward the lower half of the rear panel. Huawei’s design follows the styling approach used by earlier phones in its Ultimate Design range.
Mate 90 RS camera hardware
The rear camera system matches the Mate 90 Pro Max. It combines a 50MP main camera using a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor with an f/1.4 to f/4.0 variable aperture, a 200MP periscope camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and 4x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultrawide camera.
The phone also natively supports Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 external camera module. The accessory uses its own 1-inch, 50MP RYYB sensor and covers a 24-240mm focal range. It is sold separately for CNY 5,999, equivalent to about $895. Within the Mate 90 lineup, the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition is the only other model listed as supporting the module.
Display, battery and connectivity
Under the redesigned exterior, the Mate 90 RS shares the Pro Max’s Kirin 9500 Pro processor, 6.9-inch tandem LTPO OLED display and 6,800mAh battery. The phone also includes satellite connectivity and an IP69 rating for ingress protection.
Storage is the main hardware distinction between the two models. While the Mate 90 Pro Max reaches 1TB, the RS version is available with up to 2TB, giving buyers a higher-capacity option for photos, video and other large files.
