Honor has announced the Magic9 and Magic9 Super Edition, two new flagship smartphones that focus on battery capacity, camera hardware and sustained performance. The compact Magic9 includes an 8,000mAh battery, while the larger Super Edition raises that figure to 11,000mAh and adds an active cooling system with a 30,000rpm fan.
Honor Magic9 combines a compact design with a large battery
The standard Honor Magic9 has a 6.37-inch OLED display with a 1,236 x 2,664 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports 10-bit color, HDR and Dolby Vision, with a peak global brightness of 2,000 nits. It also uses 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and can reduce brightness to 1 nit. Unlike some flagship displays, it is not an LTPO panel.
Despite its smaller footprint, the phone carries an 8,000mAh battery. It supports 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 27W reverse wired charging. The handset weighs 209g and measures 8.5mm thick.
Photography is handled by a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/1.9 aperture and CIPA 7.5 stabilization. It is joined by a 200MP periscope camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 55MP front-facing camera. Honor says the Magic9 supports its G200 teleconverter accessory.
The camera system also uses Honor’s H1 imaging chip, which the company rates at 18.8 TOPS per watt for AI processing. Honor worked with cinema-camera manufacturer Arri on imaging improvements for the Magic9 series.
Magic9 Super Edition adds active cooling
The Magic9 Super Edition has a larger 6.81-inch display with a 1,280 x 2,788 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color. It supports HDR and reaches a quoted peak global brightness of 2,000 nits, but does not list Dolby Vision support.
Its defining feature is an 11,000mAh battery, supported by 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 27W reverse wired charging. Honor says wireless power sharing is also available. The phone measures 8.1mm thick and weighs 227g.
For demanding workloads, Honor combines a large vapor chamber with an active fan. The cooling system can dissipate 12W of heat, while the ducted fan spins at 30,000rpm and is designed to improve heat dissipation by 30%.
The Super Edition uses a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.55-inch sensor, a 50MP 3x telephoto camera and a 12MP autofocus ultra-wide camera. Its front camera has a 50MP rectangular sensor. The rear camera can record 4K video at 120fps, while the front camera supports 4K at 60fps.
Snapdragon chip and China pricing
Both phones use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, alongside 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and between 256GB and 1TB of storage. They also include Honor’s Yoyo AI features for tasks involving the calendar, recorder, notes and file management.
Honor says the phones integrate with Apple devices, including Apple Watch support and notifications when a paired iPhone is ringing. Both models have IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection ratings and come in Black, Olive Green, Yellow and White.
The Magic9 is available for pre-order in China from CNY 5,000 for the 12GB/256GB version. The Magic9 Super Edition starts at CNY 4,500 with the same memory and storage configuration. Honor has not yet confirmed global launch details.
