Google is bringing its digital wardrobe feature to the Google Photos app for iPhone and iPad users in the U.S., India, and Brazil. The AI-powered tool organizes clothing found in a user’s existing Google Photos library, giving them a way to browse items and build outfits inside the app.
The wardrobe feature was first announced in April and was initially available only on Android. Its arrival on iOS expands access to the tool, although Google’s announcement lists only those three countries for the current rollout.
How the Google Photos wardrobe works
Google Photos uses AI to identify images of clothing in a user’s photo library and collect them in a digital closet. The resulting items appear in a new Wardrobe section within the app’s Collections tab.
Users can browse clothing by more specific categories, including tops and bottoms. They can then combine individual pieces to create outfits, making it possible to review different combinations without searching through their full photo library.
Outfit creation and virtual try-ons
The feature also lets users virtually try on the outfits they create. Google Photos provides options to share the results with friends or save them to a moodboard, giving the wardrobe tools uses beyond simply cataloging clothing photos.
Because the feature draws from images already stored in Google Photos, the digital closet is built around items in the user’s existing library. The announcement does not specify additional availability beyond the U.S., India, and Brazil.
Google Photos adds Remix templates
Alongside the iOS wardrobe rollout, Google Photos is adding 15 new templates for Remix. Remix is a feature that uses AI to transform images, and the new templates provide additional ways to apply those transformations.
The two updates give iOS users both a practical photo-organization tool and more creative options for editing images. The wardrobe feature is available through the Google Photos app in the countries included in Google’s announcement, while the broader Remix update adds to the app’s existing collection of AI-based image tools.
