Garmin has announced the Enduro 4, a flagship endurance smartwatch with more memory, expanded training tools and the same price as its predecessor. The company is also launching the Approach S72, a new golf-focused smartwatch with an OLED display, advanced swing measurements and built-in calling support.

The Enduro 4 goes on sale in the United States on October 9 for $899. The Approach S72 starts at $799.

Garmin Enduro 4 upgrades storage and performance

The Enduro 4 retains the basic design of the Enduro 3, including a 51mm case, titanium bezel, fiber-reinforced polymer construction, 10 ATM water resistance and an integrated LED flashlight. It weighs 68 grams and comes with a new ComfortFit Fabric Band that supports Garmin’s QuickFit system.

Garmin has increased RAM by 50% and doubled internal storage to 64GB. The company says the added memory enables a smoother interface and makes map panning 30% faster. A new Perspective View also lets users see farther ahead on a route.

The watch still uses a 1.4-inch MIP display with a Power Sapphire lens rather than an OLED panel. Garmin is maintaining the Enduro line’s focus on battery life, with up to 320 hours of activity tracking with solar charging under suitable conditions, or up to 90 days in smartwatch mode with appropriate sunlight.

New Enduro 4 training and battery modes

The Enduro 4 adds Max Accuracy and Max Battery modes. Max Accuracy is intended for shorter activities where more precise tracking is important, while Max Battery is designed to extend operation during events such as ultramarathons.

Garmin has also added grade-adjusted workout targets and rolling pace measurements that factor in hills when evaluating effort. New stamina zones and stamina curves show how endurance changes during an activity and over time.

Some activity profiles receive additional data as well. Indoor rowing, for example, can now provide a VO2 max reading.

Approach S72 targets golfers

The Approach S72 comes in 43mm and 47mm sizes and combines an OLED display with a Sapphire lens, titanium bezel and ComfortFit fabric band. It tracks golf metrics beyond basic yardage, including hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation.

With a Garmin Golf Membership, the watch can provide information on select courses, post-round analytics and aerial course imagery to help golfers plan shots.

Garmin says the Approach S72 is its first golf-focused watch with both a loudspeaker and microphone. That enables calls from the watch and voice commands for certain tasks. The 47mm model is rated for up to 20 hours on the course or 15 days in smartwatch mode without GPS.
