Beats has announced the Beats 360, a new pair of full-sized wireless headphones aimed at people who want to use over-ear headphones while exercising. The $350 headphones combine an IPX4 water-resistance rating with replaceable ear cushions and headbands, allowing owners to refresh worn parts or change the headphones’ appearance.

The Beats 360 are available in Black, Cloud, Pink, and Sky. They ship with Performance knit cushions made from mesh material with foam padding, while optional soft leather cushions are also available. Beats says the IPX4 rating is a first for its headphones and provides protection against water splashes, although it does not make the headphones waterproof.

Interchangeable cushions and headbands

The replacement Cushion Kits include both ear cushions and a headband. Performance knit cushions are offered in Black, Cloud, Pink, Sky, Navy, and Volt, while UltraPlus cushions come in Black and Cloud. This lets users combine colors or replace components after extended use rather than replacing the entire headset.

Beats is also targeting long-term wearability with more hard-wearing materials. The Cushion Kits cost $50, but Beats is offering them at an introductory price of $10. The headphones and replacement parts are available through Apple’s website and Apple Stores, with other retailers expected to follow.

Custom audio hardware and noise cancellation

The Beats 360 use a custom high-dynamic-range amplifier and custom dual-magnet dynamic drivers. Beats says the drivers produce 12dB higher output than the drivers in the Beats Studio line. The new design also adds improved dampening and greater rigidity.

Active noise cancellation uses nine MEMS microphones and a proprietary Beats chip in each earcup. According to Beats, the system blocks 1.75 times more noise than the Beats Studio Pro, making the Beats 360 its most capable noise-cancelling headphones. ANC adjusts to surrounding noise and the headset’s fit, while a revised transparency mode is intended to sound more natural.

The headphones also support Adaptive EQ, which adjusts playback for the listener’s ear and head shape. Beats says the feature maintains consistent sound across different listeners and volume levels, including when ANC and transparency mode are switched off.

Apple and Android features without an Apple chip

Unlike several Apple audio products, the Beats 360 do not use Apple’s H1 or H2 chips. Instead, Beats developed its own chip, with the electronics, battery, and antennas housed inside the two earcups to reduce wiring through the headband.

Despite that difference, the headphones support Spatial Audio with head tracking, hands-free Siri, audio sharing, iCloud pairing, automatic switching between Apple devices, and Find My. Android users get features including Fast Pair, Find Hub, Google account pairing, and Audio Switch through the Beats Android app.

Battery life and connectivity

Beats claims up to 32 hours of battery life with ANC enabled or disabled. The Beats 360 do not support wired audio, unlike the Beats Studio Pro and AirPods Max 2. That makes them a wireless-only option for users considering Beats’ newest full-sized headphones.
