Apple may be preparing to bring its next-generation Siri features to the full-size HomePod. The possibility comes from updated alt text attached to an image of the speaker on Apple's HomePod order page, which describes a “multi-colored Siri AI glow on top.”
Apple has not announced Siri AI support for the current full-size HomePod, and the wording could also be an error on the company's website. Still, the reference is notable because Apple introduced the HomePod mini 2 without announcing a refresh for the larger model.
What Apple's HomePod page says
The image description appears to reference the visual effect associated with Siri AI. Apple uses a multicolored glow to represent the assistant's newer capabilities, making the wording seem more specific than a generic description of the HomePod's status light.
However, alt text is not a product announcement. It may have been added in anticipation of a future update, reused from planned marketing material, or entered incorrectly. Apple has not clarified why the description mentions Siri AI.
Siri AI is coming to HomePod mini 2
The newly introduced HomePod mini 2 will support Siri AI, but the feature will not be available at launch. Apple says it will arrive through a future software update and has not provided a release timeframe.
For requests involving a user's personal context, Siri AI on the HomePod mini 2 will require a paired iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. That requirement suggests the speaker may rely on a compatible Apple device for at least some of the assistant's more personalized functions.
Will the larger HomePod need new hardware?
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple planned to update the full-size HomePod eventually. It remains unclear whether that update would bring Siri AI to existing speakers or arrive only with a new model.
The website wording does not resolve that question. Apple could enable the feature on current hardware through software, or it could reserve Siri AI for a future full-size HomePod. The company has not disclosed its plans or provided a timetable for either possibility.
For now, the HomePod mini 2 is the only HomePod model with announced Siri AI support. Owners of the larger speaker will need to wait for an official statement or software update before knowing whether their device will receive the feature.
