Apple has set a release timeline for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, confirming that pre-orders will open on Friday, October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with the device reaching customers on Friday, October 23.
The initial launch covers the United States and more than 70 other countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Apple said an additional 28 countries and regions will get the iPhone Duo a week later, on Friday, October 30.
iPhone Duo Pricing and Storage Options
In the U.S., the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for a 256GB configuration, positioning it as Apple's most expensive iPhone at launch. Buyers who want more storage will pay significantly more, with pricing scaling up as follows:
- 256GB: $1,999
- 512GB: $2,199
- 1TB: $2,599
- 2TB: $3,199
The top-tier 2TB model comes in at $3,199, underscoring the premium Apple is charging for its foldable design and larger internal storage tiers.
Color Options
Apple is offering the iPhone Duo in two finishes at launch: Star White and Night Sky. No additional color options were mentioned alongside the pricing and availability details.
What the iPhone Duo Offers
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo earlier this month, describing it as a new kind of iPhone built around two screens and a foldable inner display. According to Apple, the two halves of the device connect into a single continuous frame, maintaining the same aspect ratio across both displays whether the phone is open or closed.
Apple said the transition between the open and closed states is designed to feel fluid, and that when fully unfolded, the iPhone Duo is the thinnest iPhone the company has ever produced.
Why the Release Date Matters
The staggered rollout, with a first wave of over 70 markets on October 23 followed by 28 more countries on October 30, suggests Apple is managing supply carefully for a device that represents a significant shift in iPhone design. For customers interested in Apple's first foldable, the October 16 pre-order window will be the earliest chance to secure a unit ahead of the initial launch date.
Given the high starting price and even steeper cost for higher storage tiers, the iPhone Duo appears aimed at customers willing to pay a substantial premium for foldable functionality, at least in this first generation.
