Apple has rolled out a new device protection option in the United States called AppleCare One Family, a $49.99-per-month subscription that covers the eligible Apple products of up to six people in a Family Sharing group. The plan expands on the single-user AppleCare One that Apple launched in July 2025.

What AppleCare One Family covers

The plan offers the same protections as AppleCare+, including coverage for accidental damage and theft and loss for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Standard service fees and deductibles still apply, and families can file up to six loss and theft claims per year across all members.

Rather than covering a fixed number of gadgets, AppleCare One Family protects all eligible devices tied to a Family Sharing group. Products already covered by AppleCare at signup, along with any purchased within the previous 60 days, are enrolled automatically during setup.

Adding older devices

Owners can also add older hardware to the plan. Devices up to four years old qualify, while AirPods and Beats products must be no more than one year old. In some cases, Apple requires a device check to confirm the hardware is in good working order, and items that fail that check cannot be added.

Apple places few caps on the total number of devices a family can include, saying the plan will cover an entire product list. One notable exception is Vision Pro, which is limited to a maximum of six headsets.

Coverage rules and requirements

Once added, devices stay covered for as long as the plan remains active. Each device must check in with Apple's servers at least once every 12 months, and Apple can drop a device from coverage if replacement service parts are no longer available.

The plan is available only in the United States, and every covered device must be signed in to the Apple Account of a family member. If a user signs out and a non-family account signs in on that device, coverage ends. Additional conditions are detailed on Apple's support page for the feature.

Any adult in a Family Sharing group can start an AppleCare One Family plan. When Purchase Sharing is enabled, the family organizer is billed by default, though Apple says the subscriber can opt to use their own payment method instead.

How it compares to AppleCare One

AppleCare One Family sits alongside the existing AppleCare One plan, which costs $19.99 per month and covers up to three devices. With that plan, additional devices can be insured for $5.99 each per month. For households with several people and many Apple products, the flat $49.99 family rate is positioned as a simpler alternative to stacking individual coverage.

The launch reflects Apple's continued push toward subscription-based services and bundled protection, giving families a single plan to manage warranties and damage coverage across iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and more.
