Apple has shipped iOS 27 with patches for more than 100 security vulnerabilities, giving users a strong reason to install the update promptly. For those not ready to move to the new version, the company also released iOS 26.7, which addresses over 80 security issues.

What the updates fix

Roughly 75 of the fixes are shared between the two releases, meaning iOS 26.7 resolves many of the same flaws found in iOS 27. Among the more serious problems are multiple kernel-level vulnerabilities. One could allow a malicious app to gain root access, while another opened the door to remote code execution over Bluetooth.

Apple has published the complete list of patched vulnerabilities on its support pages for both iOS 27 and iOS 26.7. According to Apple, none of the flaws are known to have been actively exploited in the wild. However, now that technical details have been made public, devices that remain unpatched could be at greater risk.

Why updating matters

Security researchers often withhold details of vulnerabilities until a fix is available. Once patches ship and disclosure follows, attackers can study the published information to target devices that have not yet updated. That makes prompt installation important, particularly given the kernel and Bluetooth flaws addressed in these releases.

Users who prefer to stay on the previous generation of iOS can install iOS 26.7 and still receive the majority of the security fixes, so there is little reason to delay patching regardless of which version a device is running.

AI tools help uncover more flaws

Apple noted that it is receiving a growing number of vulnerability reports as AI models become more capable at finding software bugs. Three of the fixes in this round are attributed to Anthropic's Claude, and OpenAI Codex Security appears in Apple's additional recognition section.

The credits reflect a broader shift in how security research is conducted, with automated systems increasingly surfacing issues that once relied largely on human analysts. As those tools improve, Apple and other vendors are likely to face a steadier stream of discoveries to triage and patch.

Both updates are available now through the Settings app under General and Software Update. Given the number and severity of the flaws involved, installing either iOS 27 or iOS 26.7 is recommended for all supported devices.
