Apple has finally introduced its first foldable iPhone. At the company's "Surprise and Shine" event this week, the iPhone Duo closed the keynote as a "one more thing" reveal, arriving alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and a new generation of entry-level AirPods.
The keynote was also a milestone for Apple's leadership. John Ternus took the stage days after formally becoming chief executive, delivering several of the headline announcements before handing off to other executives for the product details.
iPhone Duo: Apple's first foldable
The iPhone Duo is a compact foldable that keeps a conventional phone-sized display on the outside and opens into an internal screen that Apple says approaches the size of an iPad mini. Beyond the hardware, Apple described a set of software changes designed around the folding form factor, tailoring the interface to the two very different display sizes.
Unlike the rest of the lineup, the Duo is not shipping immediately. Pre-orders open on October 16, with the device going on sale on October 23 — a little over a month after the other products announced this week.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: A20 Pro and a smaller Dynamic Island
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max retain a design close to last year's iPhone 17 Pro models, but Apple made several internal changes. As widely rumored ahead of the event, the Dynamic Island is smaller and can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
Powering both phones is the A20 Pro chip, with a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple credits a substantially larger vapor chamber cooling system for a claimed improvement of up to 40% in sustained performance versus the A19 Pro.
On the camera side, the Main sensor gains a variable aperture. Apple also cites longer battery life and new color options. Pre-orders started the day after the keynote, with retail availability on September 18.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4
The Apple Watch Series 12 moves to a new S11 chip and adopts a redesigned health sensing system shared with the Ultra 4. Aluminum models come in Space Gray, Black, Light Gold and Dark Bronze, and now include Ceramic Shield, which Apple says makes the screens 60% tougher. Polished titanium versions are offered in Radiant Gold and Natural, and Apple has added ceramic models in Pearl White and Night Blue. Pricing starts at $399.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 pairs the same S11 chip and health sensing hardware with a larger battery that Apple says delivers two days of use. Apple claims up to 18 hours of workout tracking with full GPS and heart rate monitoring, rising to 45 hours in the maximum extended workout mode. The Ultra 4 starts at $799.
Both watches are available to pre-order now and launch on September 18.
AirPods 5 bring ANC to the entry level
Apple's AirPods 5 put Active Noise Cancellation in the company's most affordable earbuds, starting at $129. A $149 configuration adds a Wireless Charging Case, swipe-based volume controls on the stems and longer battery life.
According to Apple, the new model removes up to 50% more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The company also points to a redesigned acoustic architecture and updated Adaptive EQ for more detailed sound, plus a Transparency mode tuned to make nearby voices sound more natural. Pre-orders are open, with shipping from Friday, September 18.
Software updates land first
The hardware is only part of the rollout. Apple's next round of software releases, including iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate, is scheduled to arrive on Monday — ahead of the September 18 hardware launch. That means existing devices will get the new operating systems before the new iPhones, watches and earbuds reach buyers.
