Amazon has announced three updated Kindle models, bringing slimmer designs, new colors, flush displays and longer battery life across the lineup. The refreshed range includes the 12th-generation Kindle, the seventh-generation Kindle Paperwhite and the second-generation Kindle Colorsoft.

Amazon is also introducing new accessories, including a Bluetooth page-turn remote, a magnetic case with built-in page-turn buttons and a charging dock.

Kindle 12th generation adds new colors and finishes

The standard Kindle keeps its 6-inch E Ink display, but the new model has more rounded corners and a flush screen. Its display borders now match the device color, giving the reader a more uniform appearance.

The Kindle is available in Ube, Graphite, Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green. Ube is a new deep purple color, while Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green are offered with aluminum backs. The Ube and Graphite models use plastic backs.

All versions are 1 millimeter thinner than the previous-generation Kindle. The plastic models weigh 140 grams, while the aluminum-backed versions add 20 grams. Amazon also says the new model opens books 30% faster than the 11th-generation Kindle, and claims up to six weeks of battery life on a charge.

The 16GB Ube and Graphite models start at $150. The 32GB aluminum-backed versions cost $190. Amazon has also moved the power button to the right side of the device.

Kindle Paperwhite focuses on reading outdoors

The seventh-generation Kindle Paperwhite retains its 7-inch E Ink display while adopting a thinner and lighter design. Amazon says the updated reader can last for up to 12 weeks on a single charge.

The company also says the new Paperwhite has an improved contrast ratio, which should make text easier to read in sunlight. The standard model comes in Graphite with 16GB of storage and costs $200.

The Paperwhite Signature Edition adds an aluminum back, 32GB of storage and an auto-adjusting front-light sensor. It is available in Graphite and Seaglass Green for $250.

Colorsoft gets a slimmer design and new finish

The second-generation Kindle Colorsoft is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It adds a Fig color option alongside Graphite, while a Signature Edition model brings an aluminum back.

Amazon lists the standard Kindle Colorsoft at $290. The Signature Edition costs $320. The announcement does not specify additional display or battery changes for the Colorsoft models.

New Kindle accessories

Amazon’s new Kindle Click is a $35 Bluetooth remote designed to turn pages without touching the reader. The $80 Page-Turn Cover is a magnetic case with integrated page-turn buttons.

A new charging dock is also available for $60. Together, the accessories give Kindle owners more hands-free reading options, particularly when using a compatible reader with a case or dock.
