Apple’s iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1, but customers will still need to install a newer software build during the phone’s initial setup. Apple has already released a second build of the operating system, suggesting the foldable iPhone will receive a day-one update.

The iPhone Duo is currently being shipped with iOS 27.1 build 24A94232. Apple’s newer build is identified as 24A94425. The difference indicates that the software installed on retail devices is older than the version Apple is now distributing.

What the iOS 27.1 update means for buyers

Because the iPhone Duo has not yet reached its October 23 launch date, Apple could release another iOS 27.1 build before customers receive their phones. The company could also move to iOS 27.2 during that window.

As a result, buyers may not see build 24A94425 specifically when they turn on their devices. Regardless of the final version available at launch, an update is expected to be part of the setup process for the iPhone Duo.

The newer build may address bugs found as the device is evaluated ahead of release. The iPhone Duo is expected to reach members of the media before its public launch, giving Apple additional time to make software changes based on testing and pre-release evaluations.

iPhone Duo pre-order and launch dates

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo will open Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific time or 8 a.m. Eastern time. The device will launch one week later, on Friday, October 23.

Apple is also offering a Get Ready process for customers who plan to pre-order. The process lets shoppers select a color and storage capacity, confirm their carrier status, choose accessories, and provide billing and payment details in advance.

How Apple’s Get Ready process works

Completing those steps before pre-orders open can make the purchase process faster. Apple recommends using the feature because it expects supply constraints for the iPhone Duo.

Even after completing the pre-order preparation, buyers should allow time for the required software installation when setting up the phone. The update will be part of bringing the device to the latest iOS version available when it ships.
