Apple's wall-mounted HomeView costs $299, the same price as the standalone version that includes a speaker base. However, buyers who want to attach the display to a wall will usually need additional hardware, making the wall-mounted setup more expensive while providing fewer audio components and color choices.

HomeView is available for preorder and is scheduled to launch on November 13. Apple offers three mounting options, although one is not yet available, and customers can also purchase the wall-mounted model without a mount.

HomeView wall mounts start at $59.95

The least expensive option is the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector, priced at $59.95. Made by Schneider Home, it is designed for self-installation and uses a standard USB-C cable connected to a power adapter. Apple says the adapter must provide at least 20 watts, and the customer must supply it separately.

The $79.95 Power Mount AC Wired option routes power through the wall to eliminate a visible cable. Apple recommends using a licensed electrician for installation and is working with ADT to provide installation services.

Apple's most expensive option is the $129.95 Power Mount PoE Wired mount. It is not currently available and requires a home with Power over Ethernet wiring. Customers can also buy the wall-mounted HomeView without a mounting accessory, though Apple is currently the only company offering an official mount.

Wall-mounted model has fewer audio components

Both HomeView versions include two custom full-range drivers built into the display. Apple says the wall-mounted model uses computational audio tuned for placement against a wall.

The speaker-base version adds a down-firing woofer and two force-canceling passive radiators. Those components are not included in the wall-mounted model, so the base version may offer a different sound profile despite sharing the same price. Direct comparisons will depend on reviews of both models.

Fewer colors for the wall version

Apple also limits the wall-mounted HomeView to silver and space gray. The version with the speaker base is available in those colors as well as starlight and rose pink.

That leaves the wall-mounted model with a higher potential setup cost, fewer finish options, and less speaker hardware. Its main advantage is a cleaner installation and audio processing designed specifically for wall placement, but buyers will need to decide whether those benefits justify the additional mounting expense.
