Apple is reportedly planning a large production run for the standard iPhone 18, with manufacturing expected to begin in late November. The claim comes as the standard iPhone 17 continues to rank among the strongest-selling smartphones worldwide.

Leaker Fixed Focus Digital said in a Weibo post that production of the standard iPhone 18 is scheduled to start toward the end of November. The post described the amount of inventory Apple is preparing as “quite large,” although it did not provide a specific production figure.

Why Apple may be increasing iPhone 18 inventory

The standard iPhone 17’s reported sales performance could help explain the alleged production plans. According to The Information, Apple asked two suppliers to raise their daily output by at least 30% after the iPhone 17’s initial preorder weekend.

Counterpoint Research later reported that the standard iPhone 17 was the world’s best-selling smartphone during both the first and second quarters of 2026. The model represented 6% of global smartphone unit sales in each quarter, placing it ahead of Apple’s more expensive iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

If Apple begins production in November, the company would have several months to build stock before the expected launch period. A larger initial supply could help Apple meet demand for the standard model, particularly if the iPhone 17’s sales momentum continues.

Expected iPhone 18 features and launch timing

The iPhone 18 is expected to maintain a design broadly similar to the current generation. Potential changes reportedly include a smaller Dynamic Island, Apple’s next-generation A20 chip and the company’s C2 modem.

Apple is also expected to introduce the iPhone 18 alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027. Apple has not confirmed the production schedule, specifications or launch timing for any of these models.

What the report means for buyers

A substantial production run would not necessarily indicate a major redesign or a guaranteed increase in demand. It would instead suggest that Apple is preparing for the standard iPhone 18 to remain an important part of its lineup, following the standard iPhone 17’s reported lead in global sales.

The November manufacturing timeline is also only a reported schedule. Supply-chain plans can change before a product reaches the market, so additional details about availability and final specifications are likely to emerge closer to the expected 2027 launch.
