Apple has outlined the customizable faces coming to HomeView, its tabletop and wall-mounted smart home display. The options include photo-based layouts, animated artwork, a Snoopy face and dashboards for smart home controls.

Apple has named seven faces so far: Photos, Flow, Snoopy, Calendar, Weather, Home Modular and Home Camera. Promotional images show additional clock and widget arrangements that the company has not yet named. Apple also says selected faces can change during the day, using different appearances in the morning and evening.

Photos and animated HomeView faces

The Photos face turns HomeView into a digital picture frame. It can show one image or rotate through a collection, while Portrait-style depth effects keep the main subject sharp and blur the foreground and background.

Shared albums let friends and family add pictures remotely, giving the display a way to show updated memories without requiring the owner to transfer each image manually.

Flow provides a more reactive visual experience. Its colors and light respond to physical presence and movement near the device. The Snoopy face uses animations tied to the time of day, weather, sporting events and holidays.

Faces for calendars, weather and smart home control

Other faces focus on information and access to connected devices. Calendar and Weather provide dedicated views for planning and current conditions, while Home Modular offers quick access to favorite accessories.

Home Camera can display live feeds from as many as nine cameras at the same time. That makes it the most directly security-focused of the named faces, although the source does not describe additional camera features beyond simultaneous viewing.

HomeView adjusts to viewing distance

HomeView's interface changes based on how far the user is from the display. From across the room, it presents simpler information intended to be easier to read. As the user moves closer, the interface can show more detail.

The device has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display. Apple says its brightness automatically adjusts from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, allowing the screen to become substantially dimmer for nighttime use.

HomeView price and release date

Both tabletop and wall-mounted HomeView models are scheduled to launch on November 13. The U.S. price is $299. Apple has not identified every face visible in its promotional material, so further layout details may be provided closer to launch.
