Apple's HomeView is designed to help users follow recipes in the kitchen without repeatedly touching a screen. When a recipe is open in Safari, tapping the "Start Cooking" button changes it into a simplified, step-by-step format with ingredient tracking and hands-free timer controls.
HomeView launches November 13 in the United States. Apple will offer both tabletop and wall-mounted versions for $299.
How HomeView guides cooking
The guided recipe experience is intended to keep cooking instructions visible while users work through each stage of a dish. Apple says HomeView can help track ingredients alongside the step-by-step directions, giving users a single place to follow the recipe.
Timers can be managed without touching the display, which could be useful when a user's hands are occupied or messy. The device supports multiple timers, while Live Activities keep those timers visible when other apps are being used.
Recipes can move from iPhone to HomeView
HomeView also supports Handoff for recipes. Users can begin browsing a recipe on an iPhone and continue on HomeView after moving to the kitchen, rather than searching for the same page again.
Handoff works with more than cooking content. Apple says users can transfer songs, podcasts, calls and videos between the devices as well.
HomeView design and kitchen features
The tabletop model combines a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with a domed speaker base. A hinge lets users change the screen angle while the device sits on a countertop. Apple is also offering a wall-mounted model at the same $299 price.
While cooking, users can listen to music or podcasts through HomeView. The device also supports Intercom, allowing people to call family members for dinner through other HomeView and HomePod speakers.
With its recipe tools, multiple timers and device-to-device handoff, HomeView is positioned as a kitchen-focused way to use Apple's connected-device features. Its November 13 launch will give users a choice between placing the display on a counter or mounting it on a wall.
